COD4 :- Game of the Year
Call of duty 4 has the highest sales figures for the year 2007. The title was launched in November and has currently sold over seven million units. The game is categorised as a first person shooter and is developed by the company Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It is available for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Mac OSX. There seems to be some controversy to this claim though as Microsoft have claimed that Halo 3 has sold over eight million units which seems to be more than claimed for COD4.
Call of Duty 4 is the first in the series to move away from the World War Two scenario and is set in different locations around the globe with modern day weapons. You can play the game from the perspective of two different characters; British SAS or American special forces. This is a pretty impressive achievement especially regading the amount of high profile games that were released in 2007. Some of the games that it beat to this position were:
Halo 3 Super mario Galaxy
World of Warcraft Expansion
Project Gotham Racing 4
Assasins Creed
Bioshock
As well as claiming this title the game has also beaten the record for the entertainment product that has earnt the most money in one day. The record was held previously by the film Spiderman 3. Microsoft are also reporting that this title is the top game played on Xbox live at the moment with the most unique users as the basis for the claim.
The computer game magazine edge didn't give COD4 a perfect ten score but did give perfect tens for Halo 3, The Orange Box and Super Mario Galaxy. Maybe this just goes to show that you shouldn't take too much notice of reviews and play the games that you think you are going to like. I say congratulations to Call of Duty 4 and well done for a great achievement.
